Buhari seeks Nigerians support on intelligence gathering

By Idowu Abdullahi

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to support his administration, particularly the nation’s security agencies through adequate provision of credible intelligence such that would aid the country’s fight against insecurity challenges bedeviling the nation.

He explained that through credible intelligence gathering from Nigerians across their area of domains, the security agencies would swiftly attend distressing situations and prevent possible loss of lives and property in Nigeria.

While assuring Nigerians that his administration was committed to protecting all citizens, irrespective of their locations across the country, Buhari said that the security agencies were on top of their games to win the war against terrorist in Nigeria.

He also cautioned Nigerians against supporting destruction across Nigeria, noting that that civilians acting as informants for terrorists were part of those fueling escalation of insecurity in the country.

Buhari made the call on Monday while commiserating with a lawmaker representing Kebbi State at the Senate, Abdukkarim Bala Na’Allah, whose first son, Captain Abdulkareem, was killed by bandits during the weekend. The president, through a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, expressed “deep sorrow” over the death of the military pilot.

“The death of Abdulkareem is another tragic chapter in our current security challenges, but I reassure Nigerians that my commitment to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians remains unwavering,” the President stated.

“I’m saddened by the tragic loss of Abdulkareem and other victims of violence and I wish to appeal to Nigerians to help our security agencies with intelligence in order to track down and bring these terrorist gangs to justice,” he further stressed.

According the president, “human intelligence is essential to the efforts to defeat these criminals; those who work as informants for criminals are destroying their own communities for the sake of pitiful financial gratification.”

Buhari prayed to Almighty Allah to repose the soul of the late Abdulkareem and give Senator Bala Na’Allah and his family as well as their friends the strength to bear the “very painful loss.”

The Guild had reported that the junior Na’Allah, was killed alongside two others during bandits attack in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

As gathered, the pilot was killed alongside the two others after separate bandits attacks in Kaduna North and Kajuru, Kaduna State. While the lawmaker’s son was killed on Sunday, the other two, Gideon Mumini and Barnabas Ezra, were killed on Saturday after the bandits stormed a village in Kajuru and shot indiscriminately around the communities.

It was learnt that the lawmaker’s son was killed by the hoodlums in his Malali Government Residential Area (GRA) house in Kaduna North Local Government.

An aide to the bereaved Senator, Garba Mohammed, who confirmed the killing of the trained pilot, said: “Suspected Kaduna Bandits Kill Captain Abdulkarim Bala Na Allah, the first Son of Senator Bala Na’Allah, in his Malali GRA Residence Kaduna today”.
