President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that his administration would be exploring all available options in protecting lives and property of Nigerians, adding that he would take necessary steps in ending insecurity and other challenges bedeviling the country.
He noted that though the country was facing challenges, the Federal Government was exploring different options to bring about lasting solutions that would restore normalcy and return lasting peace to the country.
The National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd.), said that the vows from the President were some of the resolution reached during an emergency meeting presided by Buhari, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and other critical stakeholders in the security sector on Friday in Abuja.
He added that issues bordering on violent attacks across the nation, including those on national assets, security personnel, and formations topped agenda at the ongoing emergency security meeting which took place at the First Lady Conference room.
Through a statement issued after the meeting, Monguno assured that the President was prepared to take profound measures in tackling the security challenges being witnessed across the country.
He added that the meeting would be recovered on Tuesday to finalise the strategies to be adopted after the President receives more briefings from the security chiefs.
“At today’s meeting, the President made it abundantly clear that while the insurgents, bandits and criminals are still at it, he has no doubt that the Nigerian security agencies and all of us as a nation will certainly overcome all the current security problems and defeat the forces of evil marauding about in different parts of the country.
“While the criminals continue to test the will of the Nigerian government, the President and the council which adjourned today’s critical meeting until Tuesday morning to receive further briefings from the security chiefs, are set and determined to decisively end the assault on the nation and will do all that it takes.
“Mr President is very prepared to take profound measures in the wider interest of the people and the Nigerian nation. There shall be no relenting until peace and security are significantly restored in our communities.”
Dignitaries present at the emergency meeting include Secretary to the Government of the Federation-Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, and Defense Minister, Major-General Bashir Magashi (Rtd); and National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno (Rtd).
Others are Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff; Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Naval Staff; Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu, and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amoo. The acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali is also in attendance.
