Worried by the number of casualties recorded during pipeline explosion recorded in Lagos State, President Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted over the disaster, assuring residents that investigation has commenced to unravel the cause.
The President’s reaction came minutes after Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) blamed the increase in casualties over encroachment on gas handling vendors and construction of houses Right Of Way (ROW).
Buhari, in a statement on his personal social media handle, on Sunday, claimed that he was sadden by the disaster.
He said: “I received with sadness the news of the explosion in Lagos, which caused loss of lives and property.
“While the NNPC makes efforts to determine the cause of the incident, I send my deepest sympathies to the victims, their families, and the Government and people of Lagos State”.
Earlier, NNPC Group General Manager, Mele Kyari, stressed that the explosion would not have affected residents if they had nit encroached on pipelines ROW.
Kyari said: “Lagos explosion update: NNPC pipeline right of way (ROW) encroachment by gas handling vendors and construction of houses enabled the explosion and aggravated the impact. Working with LASG and security agencies to clear the ROW”.
