By Monsuru Olowoopejo
The Nigerian Police Force has detained controversial hip-hop artiste, Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley, for contravening the lockdown order imposed on Lagos State by President Muhammadu Buhari to end coronavirus disease in the country.
Naira Marley was detained hours after a video of his attendance at the birthday party organised by Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele-Bello, for her husband, Abdul-Rasheed Bello professionally known as JJC, went viral for violating the 2020 Lagos Infectious Disease Regulations.
When the police stormed the home of the Bello yesterday, Naira Marley had left the premises after backlash trailed the party, which many claimed, was in sharp variance with the social distancing pronouncement by the government.
Confirming his detention, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana, on Monday, added that the artiste will be arraigned tomorrow for engaging in acts that contradict the law.
He said: “The Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu psc expressed his profound gratitude to Lagosians and other well-meaning Nigerians that speak up against the violations. Together we can stop the spread of COVID-19”.
