The Guild gathered that the tragedy occurred at about 7.30pm on Monday when a 20-seater passenger boat enroute Ojo capsized after encountering strong waves.
It was learned that the local divers rescued the 19 passengers few minutes after the mishap happened.
Confirming the tragedy, General Manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, explained that the deceased was pronounced dead by medical officials.
Emmanuel said: “The last passengers of the 20 was in critical condition was he was rescued. And to ensure he is saved, he was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
“The 19 other passengers were handed over to their families for onward care after been confirmed stable by the medical officials,” he added.
According to him, for interrogation, the Marine Police has arrested the Captain of the ill-fated boat and ongoing investigations is being carried out by LASWA and other relevant Emergency Agencies.
