As part of the plan to reinforce Chelsea Football team ahead of next season, the club management has confirmed the signing of Brazilian defender, Thiago Silva, on a free transfer.
Thiago, who left Paris Saints Germain (PSG) after the expiration of his contract has signed a one year contract with the English football club, in order to boost their chances of lifting Champions League, Premier league trophies and other titles.
The defender’s signing came days after Chelsea completed the signing of Ajax former playmaker, Hakim Zyech, German striker, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, and Malang Sarr, to fortify their team.
Thiago, who was an integral part of the PSG team that played at this year’s UEFA champions league final, was expected to shore up their defence ahead of the season.
The Chelsea director of football, Marina Granovskaia, revealed that the club was delighted to add a proven world-class player like Thiago to its ranks.
“Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here” she added.
Addressing newsmen after the signing ceremony, Thiago disclosed that his mission in the club was to win trophies and join legends that have put on the London team jersey.
“I am so happy to be joining Chelsea. I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I am here to challenge for honours.
“See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon,” he added
The Brazilian, who was a captain for his country, has been capped 89 times and registered seven goals in those periods while wearing the yellow and blue jersey.
Having amassed 23 trophies during his eight years stint at PSG, he would be expected to compete for playing time with German defender, Rudiger, Christeensen, Zouma and Tomori.
