Brazilian defender extends Arsenal contract to 2029

Premier League side Arsenal have confirmed that centre-back Gabriel Magalhães has signed a contract extension, securing his future at the London club beyond the expiration of his current deal this summer.

The 27-year-old Brazilian international has become a vital part of the team since joining in 2020, making 210 appearances and scoring 20 goals, more than any other defender in the club’s history.

In a statement released on Friday, Arsenal explained that Gabriel’s contract extension was necessary due to his growing influence on the squad, both defensively and offensively.

The club highlighted his consistency at the heart of defence and his impressive goal tally as key reasons for securing his long-term commitment.

Gabriel arrived at the Emirates from Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille in a £27 million move and made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut against Fulham on the opening day of the 2020/2021 Premier League season.

Since then, he has remained a regular starter under Mikel Arteta, earning praise for his leadership, aerial dominance, and ability to contribute in both penalty areas.

Reflecting on his new deal, Gabriel said he was proud of how far he has come and excited for what lies ahead with the club.

“I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years, I’m so happy and I’ve learned a lot. I’m so proud of myself — it’s been an amazing journey, and I’m happy to continue it. I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club and my family loves the club too.

“Arsenal is an amazing club and I’m so proud to sign a new contract. I love the supporters, my teammates, I love this stadium. I’m so proud, and thank you for all the support. We continue together for the future.”
