Borno Gov. donates N5m to slain soldiersĀ families

By Awoniyi Ademide

The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of military families by donating N5 million each to the families of eight soldiers who lost their lives in a recent terrorist IED attack.

Beyond the cash support, Zulum also pledged full educational scholarships for the children of the fallen soldiers, assuring the bereaved families that the sacrifices of their loved ones would never be forgotten.

During a condolence visit to the families of the slain heroes, the governor said the initiative was aimed at easing their financial burdens and honouring the memory of the deceased.

ā€œTo support their families during this difficult period, the government is providing N5 million to each bereaved family,ā€ Zulum stated during his visit on Friday.

ā€œWe are also committed to sponsoring the education of all their children. For those who had no children, close relatives will benefit from our assistance,ā€ he added.

The governor stressed that the gesture reflects his administration’s dedication to the families of Nigerian troops and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members who have laid down their lives in defence of peace and security.

Describing the deceased as heroes and martyrs, Zulum praised their courage in protecting their communities and assured their families that they would not be forgotten.

He offered prayers for the souls of the fallen soldiers and encouraged their families to find strength in the honourable legacy they left behind.

The eight soldiers were killed on Tuesday when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated during a mission in the troubled region.
