Determined to confront the violence that has shattered their communities following intensified gunmen attacks, which have left hundreds of residents dead and displaced thousands, women in Benue State rallied on a major highway, demanding government action and justice for the victims of the unrelenting assaults.
Angered by the constant threats to their lives and homes, hundreds of women across the state stormed a key highway in protest, calling for urgent intervention to end the wave of attacks that have ravaged local villages.
The group, largely made up of widows, wives, and young women, converged on a major federal road where they blocked traffic, chanting protest songs and waving tree branches in a symbolic gesture of outrage over the worsening insecurity.
Speaking to correspondents at the protest site, one of the demonstrators, identified as Torkwase, explained that the demonstration was peaceful and aimed at drawing attention to the growing danger they face daily.
“We are gathered here around the highway in Agan ward. Our message is clear, we are fed up with the insecurity in our area, and we need the government to take urgent action,” she stated.
Meanwhile, security operatives were observed at the scene of the protest in Agan community, along the Makurdi–Benue State highway, ensuring the situation remained orderly.
The women’s demonstration has further amplified public frustration over the continued violence plaguing Agan and other communities across Benue State.
