The Benue State Taskforce on Illegal Levies has arrested seven suspected members of the notorious “Marching Ground” gang for allegedly attempting to extort ₦1 million from a construction site in Makurdi.
The operation was led by the Senior Special Assistant on Youth Organization and Illegal Levies, Gbenda Terver, following a distress alert from residents about the gang’s activities.
The arrested individuals were identified as Adom Tilenenge, Adepuu Amachi, Friday Mnyamchie, Orseer Samuel, Msughter Iorwua, Terhide Tyohee, and Aondongu Ayamseor.
The suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday, behind Modern Market in Makurdi, after residents raised an alarm which prompted a swift response by the Taskforce, leading to their arrest at the construction site where they had demanded a “Marching Ground fee.”
Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Makurdi Police Area Command for detention and prosecution.
