The Benue State Government has intensified collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Justice in a renewed effort to uncover the truth behind the brutal attack on Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area and ensure justice for the victims.
A team of forensic pathologists was deployed to Yelwata yesterday to collect and analyze critical evidence from the scene of the killings, supporting ongoing prosecutions and holding perpetrators accountable.
The deployment follows the earlier arraignment of nine suspects on February 2, 2026, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The suspects were arrested in connection with the June 13, 2025 attack, and the court emphasized the importance of forensic evidence in securing a fair trial.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by Air Commodore Jacob Gbamwuan (rtd), Director General of Homeland Security, and Prof. Yangien Ornguga, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, welcomed the forensic team and assured them of full cooperation throughout the one-week exercise.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to unravel the circumstances of the Yelwata attack and urged residents to remain calm while supporting efforts to ensure justice is served.
