The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two candidates participating in its ongoing recruitment exercise after they were discovered presenting forged academic certificates during the screening process.
The fake documents were detected during the recruitment screening at the Police Training School in Bauchi State.
Preliminary findings showed that the suspects allegedly used falsified National Examinations Council (NECO) results in an attempt to gain entry into the recruitment programme.
Investigators at the recruitment centre also discovered that both candidates shared the same name and moved together throughout the screening stages, raising suspicion among officials supervising the exercise.
The duo was subsequently intercepted after verification checks reportedly revealed inconsistencies in their academic credentials.
The Bauchi police said the suspects were taken to the Divisional Police Officer of ‘E’ Division and later transferred to investigators for further questioning and documentation of the alleged forgery.
According to the command in a statement issued on Friday, the arrests underscore the Force’s determination to maintain transparency and integrity in the recruitment process.
“We will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the credibility of the police recruitment exercise through the use of forged documents,” the statement said.
The command added that strict screening procedures remain in place to detect irregularities, assuring that appropriate legal action would be taken after investigations are concluded.
