A group of armed men, suspected to be bandits, launched an attack on a rural community in Katsina State, killing one villager and leaving an elderly woman with multiple injuries.
In addition to taking a life, the attackers reportedly looted homes and shops, making away with dozens of livestock before fleeing the village.
The attack, which has left many residents counting their losses due to the stolen goods and valuables, was said to have occurred in Yar Danya, a community in Kurfi Local Government Area of the state.
Security analyst Bakatsine, who disclosed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday, said the attack happened late Tuesday night while residents had retired for the day.
“They killed one person, injured one woman, looted houses and shops, and also rustled livestock during the invasion,” Bakatsine stated.
While the full extent of the damages is yet to be independently verified, Bakatsine revealed that the suspected bandits operated freely for several hours without any immediate security intervention.
As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Police Command has not released an official statement concerning the attack or the status of any investigations.
Efforts to confirm the incident through the Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages to his phone went unanswered.
