Bandits kill villager, abduct other in Kaduna community

By Awoniyi Ademide

A group of suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on Unguwar Gabas, a community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing one villager and abducting another.

The armed men reportedly stormed the village at midnight, encountering no resistance from security forces, which allowed them to carry out the assault unhindered.

It was gathered that residents were caught completely off guard and fled in different directions, abandoning their belongings to avoid being killed.

The attackers were said to have fired shots indiscriminately, one of which struck and killed a villager who later succumbed to his injuries.

According to a source, the assailants escaped without any confrontation from security personnel, whisking their captive away into a nearby bush, with their destination unknown.

“Bandits invaded Unguwar Gabas, killing one person and abducting another during the attack that lasted several hours last night,” the source said.

“The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and the location of the kidnapped individual remains unknown,” he added.

The incident adds to the growing number of bandit attacks across Kaduna State, which have escalated in recent months despite ongoing talks between government officials and the criminal elements.

As of the time of filing this report, local authorities had not issued an official statement, while security agencies are said to be investigating the attack.
