A group of armed men, suspected to be bandits, invaded Kushe Gugbu in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing a resident of the community and abducting a Catholic priest before fleeing to an unknown destination.
The cleric, Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal, was reportedly kidnapped from his residence after the gunmen forced their way into his premises.
Confirming the attack in a statement released by the Chancellor of the Kaduna Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Christian Emmanuel revealed that Paschal was taken from his residence at St. Stephen Parish.
The chancellor also confirmed that the other victim was the brother of another cleric, identified as Rev. Anthony Yero.
The has heightened fears among villagers, as the bandits carried out the act without any interference from security operatives.
“People are terrified because these bandits now behave as though no one can stop them,” a community member told correspondents, describing the mood after the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the state police command had not released any statement concerning the killing and abduction.
