Bandits have killed two residents and abducted 13 others following a violent attack on a community gathering in Katsina, leaving families devastated.
Community members said the victims were attending a naming ceremony when gunmen suddenly invaded, disrupting the event and forcing guests to flee for safety.
Relatives of the abducted said the attackers moved quickly, selecting 13 able-bodied individuals before retreating into nearby bushes.
A resident who spoke on Friday described the attack as a shock, noting that many locals had hoped the security situation in the area was improving.
“We believed the understanding reached with the bandits would reduce these kinds of attacks,” the resident said. “Instead, they came into our community and carried out this terrible act.”
Another community source expressed frustration that the violence occurred despite a reported peace agreement between local stakeholders and bandit groups aimed at reducing hostilities.
The attack took place on Thursday evening in Unguwar Daudu village, Mahuta Ward, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Details surrounding the identities of the victims and the condition of the abducted residents remain unclear.
Residents said the attack has renewed anxiety across surrounding communities, with many calling on Katsina authorities to intensify security operations to prevent further assaults.
