Two operatives of the Mobile Police Force have been reported dead following a violent clash with armed bandits who attacked a rural community in Zamfara State.
The incident occurred when the assailants stormed the outskirts of Tsafe, along the Yankuzo Road in the state.
The officers, who were reportedly on duty at the time of the attack, came under heavy gunfire, resulting in their untimely deaths as they were unable to withstand the assault.
A source who confirmed the development noted that the assailants arrived in large numbers and opened fire without warning.
Speaking to The Guild on Monday, the source added that the policemen attempted to repel the attack but were eventually overwhelmed by the bandits.
“The officers fought bravely, but the attackers had the advantage of numbers and firepower,” the source told The Guild.
The killings highlight the worsening security challenges in Zamfara, where bandit groups continue to launch deadly raids on communities, motorists, and security personnel.
Despite ongoing military operations, the state remains one of the hardest-hit by banditry in northern Nigeria.
As of the time of this report, neither security authorities nor the state government had released an official statement regarding the attack.
