A gang of bandits has killed 13 guests and also injured during a wedding celebration in Kaduna.
The gunmen invaded the scene and opened fire on the attendees causing their death and also injuring others which led to massive unrest in the area.
One Shehu Bala, a resident at Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government, where the mishap happened, said that the gunmen suddenly invaded the ceremony at about 11:47 pm on Sunday, forcing people to flee in different directions.
“There are two of my friends who were inside the hall and they also sustained bullet injuries during the attack,” Bala said.
According to him, the attackers operated for nearly an hour, during which they also carried out abductions and looted property belonging to residents in the area.
Furthermore, a local community leader confirmed that at least 13 victims were killed in the assault and had already been buried, while efforts were ongoing to determine the exact number of persons taken away by the gunmen.
“The entire community was thrown into panic because of the heavy gunfire, forcing many residents to run into the bush for safety,” the community leader said, adding that the attackers raided nearby shops, making away with food items, household supplies and drugs from a chemist store before leaving the area.
Police authorities have confirmed the incident and said investigations had begun to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack and the number of people abducted.
Spokesperson for Kaduna state police command, Hassan Mansur, said that a detailed report would be provided once preliminary findings were completed.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Balarabe, alongside a serving senator, visited some of the injured victims receiving treatment at a hospital in the area.
