As parts of the northern region continue to battle insurgency, scores of travellers in a commercial bus have been abducted by armed men suspected to be bandits after their vehicle was intercepted along the Makurdi–Naka highway in Benue State.
The attackers were said to have laid an ambush for the unsuspecting passengers, hijacking the fully loaded vehicle en route from Makurdi to Naka, with no security presence along the isolated road.
According to an eyewitness, the victims were marched at gunpoint into a nearby forest, leaving the vehicle abandoned by the roadside.
As of the time of reporting, the Benue State Police Command had yet to confirm the incident, and the exact number of abducted passengers remains unknown.
Meanwhile, residents have raised concerns over growing insecurity on the Makurdi–Naka highway, warning that the once-busy route is rapidly becoming unsafe for travellers.
