A gang of armed bandits has abducted six worshippers following an attack on a mosque in Kaduna.
The assailants were said to have fired gunshots into the air to intimidate people in the area after which four men and two women were kidnapped during a held evening prayer session.
The residents at Azara community in Kachia Local Government, where the incident happened on Monday, said that two additional people were seized from a nearby residence; however, the duo later managed to escape.
Community sources confirmed the identities of the abductees, adding that they are working with authorities to secure their release.
A source close to the victims’families said, “The kidnappers called us demanding a ransom of thirty million naira, making it clear that negotiations must be handled carefully.”
Meanwhile, security agencies are said to be mobilising to track the gunmen, who reportedly retreated toward the forest after the abductions.
