President Bola Tinubu has pledged a stronger action against banditry and terrorism, describing the violence as alien to Nigeria’s identity and a major obstacle to economic growth, while assuring Nigerians that his administration will intensify efforts to restore security nationwide.
The President said the persistent attacks remain a top priority for his government, promising renewed determination to strengthen the country’s defence framework and confront armed groups threatening stability and development.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja while declaring open the two-day National Economic Council (NEC) Conference at the State House Conference Centre, where he addressed federal and state leaders on the need to tackle insecurity as part of broader national development efforts.
“We must further strengthen our security forces to defeat terrorism and combat banditry. This is what has kept all of us sleepless at night, but I assure you that we will win with determination and resilience,” the President said.
He described banditry and terrorism as unacceptable, noting that such acts are foreign to Nigeria’s culture and pose serious economic setbacks if not urgently addressed.
Tinubu also expressed concern over recent attacks in communities, including Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and parts of Katsina State.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the nation’s security architecture through increased funding, intelligence-driven operations, modern surveillance, and closer collaboration among security agencies, state governments, and local communities.
He commended security personnel and state governors for their efforts in combating insecurity, urging sustained cooperation until lasting peace is achieved.
Tinubu also called on Nigerians to support security agencies with timely information, stressing that defeating terrorism and banditry requires collective responsibility and national unity.
