The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved the appointment of 142 district heads, a move aimed at strengthening traditional governance, deepening community participation, and accelerating inclusive development across local communities in the state.
The appointments are intended to improve administrative coordination, enhance local dispute resolution mechanisms, and position traditional institutions as effective partners in policy implementation.
The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Abubakar Wabi, announced the appointments on Tuesday during a media briefing in Bauchi.
Wabi explained that the selections cut across 20 emirates and one chiefdom, reflecting recent reforms in the state’s traditional governance structure.
According to him, the exercise was conducted in line with the provisions of the Bauchi State Chieftaincy Law, 2025, which guides institutional restructuring.
“This exercise is legally grounded and focused on strengthening governance at the community level,” Wabi said.
He further noted that the law created additional emirate councils, making it necessary to appoint qualified district heads to support effective administration.
Wabi added that improved collaboration between traditional rulers and the government would enhance service delivery at the grassroots.
“These appointments will ensure better coordination and accountability within grassroots administration,” he said.
He commended Governor Mohammed for supporting the reforms and urged the newly appointed district heads to uphold fairness, unity, and development in their respective communities.
