Niger Gov. vows to hunt bandits with high-tech gear

Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has vowed to step up efforts to eliminate banditry in the state, pledging to track down both criminals and anyone aiding them using advanced technological tools.

Speaking on Thursday during a visit to Borgu Local Government Area, Bago warned residents against shielding bandits or acting as informants, stressing that anyone found supporting criminal activities would face serious consequences.

He outlined his administration’s strategy to tackle insecurity, noting that, in partnership with the federal government and security agencies, the state has deployed technology to monitor communications and track suspects.

“We have gadgets capable of tracking and monitoring your calls,” the governor said, adding that anyone found communicating with bandits or serving as an informant would be treated as part of the criminal network.

Bago also highlighted the impact of insecurity on key sectors, particularly education and agriculture, noting that persistent attacks have disrupted schooling and farming, hindering development. He urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible information.

Reaffirming his stance, the governor promised that all those aiding criminal networks would be brought to justice, emphasizing that informants would be pursued with the same determination as the bandits themselves.
