Efforts by the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to move every member of his family from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has proved abortive after his son, Abba, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
After joining the APC, the young son of the ex-Vice president collapsed the structure earlier setup to mobilise for his father and ordered that his followers mobilize support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
To further prove his commitment to the APC, he renamed the political group he founded in 2022 as Atiku Haske organisation to Haske Bola Tinubu Organinsation.
He was received into the ruling party by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin and the National Vice Chairman of the APC, North East, Mustafa Salihu, and the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, in Abuja.
On his decisions, the young Atiku said: “My name is Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, but everyone calls me Abba. I am here today to formally announce my exit from my former party and my decision to join the APC following the outstanding leadership style and quality of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
“With this development, I will work closely with Senator Barau to actualise the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. I am also directing all coordinators and members of my organisation, Haske Atiku Association now Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation to join the APC and work for the second term bid of President Tinubu.”
Jibrin, who described his Abba’s decision as courageous and ideological, said: “He made this decision based on conviction, not because of who his father is, but because he believes in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ideology and programmes for the country.
I want to assure you and his supporters of maximum support within the party. You have been following political developments of the country from the United States and impressed by the administration’s reforms and outreach efforts, which prompted you to return home and join the APC”.
