Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the federal government over its handling in the case of the kidnapped school girls in Kebbi, stating that the efforts, if any, hold no waters in apprehending the perpetrators of the act alongside ensuring security in the country.
Atiku, while condemning the apex government, described its narrative in the matter as sheer incompetence and a dangerous nominalization of kidnapping which poses threat to the right to life of the masses.
The former Presidential candidate raised eyebrows towards the comments made by the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who expressed delight following the release of the abducted children.
In a statement released by the agitator, he disclosed that the release of the abductees should not be seen as ‘a moment of trophy’ but rather fashion out ways to curb the growing freedom and influence of terrorists who have put up acts to worsen security challenges faced in the country.
In the statement released by his media aide, Paul Ibe, on Wednesday, Atiku held that terrorists now dictate terms while the government issues press statements to save its face.
”Nigerians deserve protection and not fairy tales by moonlight,” the statement reads in extracts.
”The release underscores growing concern over the security situation in Nigeria and calls for urgent, tangible measures to protect citizens rather than issuing statements that glorify minimal government action,” it added.
Atiku called for the gearing up of security agencies and military to track the terrorists, arrest them and make sure they are dismantled to ensure that Nigeria is saved from cases of insurgency and become a peaceful habitat.
