The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has announced that two former Senate Presidents, Pius Anyim and Bukola Saraki, would be servicing closely with him on his presidential council, with Saraki being appointed as Special Envoy to the presidential candidate, while Anyim is expected to play the role of a special adviser to Atiku.
Also, two ex-governors, Kano State former Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, and his Osun State colleague, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, as well as Ehigie Uzamere, were picked to serve under the same council as special advisers respectively alongside other members, working to ensure Atiku emerge, Nigerian next president.
Besides, the former national chairman, PDP, Uche Secondus, also received a letter to serve as Technical Adviser to the presidential candidate, with a mandate to ensure that no stone is left unturned throughout the campaign period.
Meanwhile, the appointment of the bigwigs by the PDP presidential candidate into his campaign council a few days before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lifts the embargo on political campaigns for 2023 elections, cannot be disassociated from a recent event in which some aggrieved members of the party pulled out of PDP’s campaign structure.
Through a statement released by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, on Monday, the presidential candidate disclosed the appointments of Anyim, Saraki, Shekarau, Oyinlola, Uzamere, and Secondus as special advisers to his campaign council with aim of strengthening his presidential campaign team ahead of official flagging of the campaign by mid-week.
He said: “The appointees are former Senate Presidents, Dr. Bukola Saraki as Special Envoy to the presidential candidate and Senator Pius Anyim, as Special Adviser.
“Also appointed as Special Advisers to the candidate is a former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Ehigie Uzamere.
“Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus was also appointed as Technical Adviser to the presidential candidate”.
He added: “The appointments are to take immediate effect. I am charging the appointees to use their vast political experiences in ensuring that the PDP presidential campaign records resounding success in the 2023 election”
