Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports suggesting he plans to quit active politics, insisting he remains fully engaged in political activities and national affairs.
Atiku’s response follows reports claiming he had met with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and decided to step aside from active politics.
In a statement issued on Monday through his media office, the former Vice President emphasised that he has not held any recent national-level meetings with ADC stakeholders that would suggest any intention to retire from politics.
He accused anti-democratic forces of orchestrating the false narrative to create confusion, undermine political momentum, and mislead Nigerians.
“An issue as fundamental as exiting active politics cannot, and would never, be communicated through rumours, faceless sources, or third-party fabrication,” the statement said.
The Waziri of Adamawa urged his supporters, members of the ADC, and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard the misinformation and remain focused on efforts to strengthen democratic governance.
“We wish to state, for the record, that information circulating on social media about a purported meeting of His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress, in which the former Vice President allegedly decided to ‘step aside and retire from active politics,’ is entirely false and deliberately misleading,” the statement read.
“This mischief is being driven by anti-democratic elements unsettled by the growing national consensus to rescue Nigeria from the failures of the current administration,” it added.
