The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued a soldier alongside 13 others who were held in hostage by bandits in Kogi.
Operatives of the military’s 12 Brigade carried out the rescuing mission engaging in a fierce battle with the kidnappers forcing them to abandon their stronghold leading to the kidnappees liberated.
The Force held that the hostages were extricated at the bandits camp in Adonkolo/Kakanda Forest, and are under medical supervision before being taken back to their family.
“Among those freed was a serving soldier who had been kidnapped while travelling between Abeokuta and Zaria”, an army source said on Tuesday.
“We will not relent until every enclave is cleared and the people are safe,” the source added.
In a related action, troops intercepted a fleeing bandit at Tajimi, recovering his abandoned motorcycle for intelligence purposes before the suspect escaped.
Additionally, a swift response along the Okene–Onyukoko road led to the rescue of seven more victims, as ongoing search-and-rescue missions continue to track remaining abductees.
The operation also yielded significant recoveries, including weapons, ammunition, military and police camouflage, sensitive documents, and even a foreign passport, further weakening the bandits’operational capabilities.
The army reiterated its commitment to aggressive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring security across Kogi State and neighbouring regions.
