The Nigerian Army has rescued at least 150 community residents kidnapped by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.
The troops, during a security operation, confronted the insurgents who were taking the vulnerable civilians which included women and children, to their hideout, to avert the mass targeted kidnapping attempt from the assailants.
During the confrontation which occurred yesterday at Kamuya, the insurgents had assembled about 17 vehicles for the operation and mobilised for a coordinated abduction, but the vigilance of our troops and surveillance teams disrupted the plan.
The army noted that the terrorists fell to pressure and l abandoned their captives and fled, leaving behind several vehicles used during the attempted operation.
The Force informed that the rescued victims were later moved to a safe location where arrangements were made to reunite them with their families.
However, the rescue mission recorded casualties among the soldiers involved in the operation. The troops informed that it encountered an improvised explosive device planted by the fleeing insurgents which injured at least five soldiers at Bula Zarma–Mangari after which they were immediately evacuated to a medical facility where they are receiving specialised treatment.
The military relayed that it’s operations across the North-East will continue to ensure communities remain safe.
