The Nigerian Army has recovered 257 stolen livestock from rustlers in Kano following a foiling move against suspected bandits in the state.
The intervention by the army operatives under the Joint Task Force was said to have forced the attackers into abandoning the animals after which the latter fled the scene.
A statement released on Monday by the military arm disclosed that the recovered animals included 135 cows, 119 sheep, one goat and two donkeys in Mainika community.
Furthermore, the statement confirmed that the livestock have been returned to their owners through established local channels to ensure proper documentation and verification.
Spokesperson for the 3 Brigade outfit, Babatunde Zubairu said that the troops acted swiftly after receiving intelligence about the rustling incident.
“Our personnel responded immediately to credible information and strategically positioned themselves along the suspected withdrawal route of the criminals,”Zubairu said.
“Upon contact, the bandits fled in disarray, abandoning the stolen livestock.”
He added that the attackers suffered significant casualties during the confrontation.
Commander of the 3 Brigade, Ahmad Tukur, commended the troops for what he described as courage and operational discipline.
“The morale and fighting spirit of our troops remain high. Their vigilance continues to yield positive results in the fight against criminal elements,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role of residents in supplying timely information that aided the operation.
“The task force remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, and operations will continue to deny criminal groups freedom of action,”Tukur stated.
