Army kills two terrorists in Borno

Two terrorists were killed after Nigerian Army troops successfully repelled an attempted attack on their position in Borno State.

The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Monday during clearance operations by Special Forces troops operating under Operation Desert Sanity of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno.

During the operation, which lasted several hours, soldiers also recovered weapons and communication equipment from the terrorists.

Military sources said the soldiers engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing the assailants to retreat after sustaining casualties.

According to the sources, the troops maintained control of their position and continued security operations without suffering any losses.

“No soldier was killed or wounded during the encounter, and none of our operational equipment was damaged,” a military source said, noting that the troops remained in high fighting spirit following the confrontation.

A subsequent sweep of the surrounding area led to the discovery of the bodies of two terrorists, while traces of blood along the escape routes suggested that several others were injured and possibly taken away by their retreating colleagues.

“During the exploitation of the area, two terrorist corpses were located. Blood trails also indicated that other casualties were evacuated by the fleeing insurgents,” the source explained.

Further search operations resulted in the recovery of several items believed to belong to the attackers. These included one PKT machine gun, three rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs, 51 rounds of 7.62×51mm ammunition, and 108 rounds of 7.62×54mm ammunition.

Troops also retrieved two Baofeng communication radios, a Redmi Android mobile phone, and three Airtel SIM cards, which security officials said could provide intelligence leads for ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
