Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed three suspected bandits in a swift Katsina operation, demonstrating intensified efforts to curb criminal activities.
A military source confirmed that soldiers engaged the assailants following a reported attack on a 34-year-old farmer Alaramma Musa from Barkinshi Village, who was attacked while heading to his farm.
According to the sources, Musa resisted and stabbed one of the bandits before sustaining serious machete injuries.
Upon the attack, a distress call by other farmers was initiated to troops stationed at Super Camp Machika who quickly mobilised to the scene.
“Our personnel intercepted the fleeing bandits and engaged them in a gun battle, resulting in three fatalities,” the source said on Thursday.
The troops also recovered a Honda motorcycle believed to have been used in the bandits’ operations.
“Our men ensured that the remaining bandits fled into nearby bushes, and we are continuing patrols to apprehend them,” the source added.
Meanwhile, Musa was evacuated to the Comprehensive Hospital in Dandume, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The Guild reports that this operation forms part of Operation Fansan Yanma’s ongoing offensive across the North-West, targeting banditry and other criminal networks that threaten local communities.
