Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully killed a commander of the extremist group Boko Haram and several of his fighters during a series of operations in Borno State, following coordinated attacks on military positions across the region.
The attacks, launched by insurgents across multiple locations, targeted military bases in communities including Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok.
The attackers aimed to overrun the positions, but soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai mounted fierce resistance, engaging the terrorists in intense overnight gun battles that forced them into retreat after sustaining heavy casualties.
In a statement released on Friday, the Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North-East) Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, , highlighted that troops responded rapidly with reinforcement teams and coordinated manoeuvres.

These strategic operations, he said culminated in the elimination of the Boko Haram commander and several insurgent fighters, effectively crippling the militants’ leadership structure in the affected areas.
The statement further noted that the operation was bolstered by the Nigerian Air Force, which carried out precision airstrikes on fleeing insurgents and suspected hideouts.
These strikes dealt significant blows to the terrorists’ operational capability, further weakening their ability to regroup or launch additional attacks.
“Ground troops are currently conducting exploitation operations across the affected areas, recovering the corpses of neutralized terrorists, as well as weapons, ammunition, and other combat equipment abandoned by the insurgents. While some structures within the targeted locations suffered damage during the exchanges, all military bases remain firmly under the control of Nigerian troops,” the statement read.
Uba also paid tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives during the confrontations, including a gallant officer who led his men from the front.
He noted that their sacrifice reflects the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defending the nation and protecting innocent citizens.
The statement emphasized that the failed assaults signal the increasing desperation of Boko Haram and other terrorist elements under sustained operational pressure across the North-East. “Operation Hadin Kai remains firmly in control of the battlespace,” the spokesperson added.

The Military further stressed that the successful operations underscore the growing pressure on insurgent groups and demonstrate the armed forces’ ongoing commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-East, protecting civilians, and ensuring that terrorist networks continue to be degraded across the region.
