Army kills 11 bandits in Sokoto forest

By Awoniyi Ademide

As part of its ongoing crackdown against criminal networks terrorizing communities in the North-West, troops of the Nigeria Army neutralized 11 bandits in Kurawa village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The breakthrough followed a calculated ambush carried out by troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Team, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, a military campaign targeting bandit factions across Sokoto, Zamfara, and neighboring corridors.

The ambush came after intelligence indicated that a group of terrorists was attempting to cross toward Tara village in the same area.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of weapons including eight AK-47 rifles, believed to have been used in previous attacks against vulnerable communities.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development on Monday, stated that the exercise took place around 6:45 a.m.

“The 8 Division Garrison Strike Team took positions along the group’s crossing route and intercepted them, leading to the elimination of 11 fighters during the encounter,” he said.

Meanwhile, troops have intensified search operations to clear hideouts and block escape corridors linked to fleeing bandits and to sanitise the area and secure villages vulnerable to reprisal attacks.

The army said more details will be made public after ongoing battlefield assessments are finalised, assuring residents that sustained pressure will continue in order to restore normalcy to affected areas.
