As part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry and insurgency in Northern Nigeria, troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested two individuals suspected of acting as informants for Boko Haram and ISWAP in Borno State.
The suspects, 28-year-old Musa Isah and 30-year-old Akona Alhaji, were apprehended around 5:30 a.m. on March 23 during a routine operation in Damboa Local Government Area.
A military source said the men, both natives of Shiwari community, were arrested by troops of Operation Hadin Kai after exhibiting suspicious movements in a strategic area known for terrorist activity.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were assisting terrorist groups by gathering information on civilians, military positions, and activities in neighboring states,” the source explained.
“They were intercepted in the ‘Serial 7 general area,’ an outer deployment zone leading to the Timbuktu Triangle, a known terrorists’ enclave,” he added.
Items recovered from the suspects include two bicycles, a mobile phone, three daggers, a torchlight, a wristwatch, charms, and N6,900 in cash.
The suspects are currently in the custody of the Military Intelligence Response Unit, where further interrogations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their involvement with terrorist networks.
