Army arrests two ISWAP informants in Borno

The Nigerian Army has arrested two informants linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), strengthening ongoing efforts to disrupt intelligence networks supporting insurgent operations in Borno State.

The operation was conducted by troops of Operation Hadin Kai under the 156 Task Force Battalion during a late-night mission in the early hours of March 17.

According to a military source, the informants were apprehended around 3:00 a.m. in the Mainok general area of Kaga Local Government while heading toward the Goni–Masari axis, following intelligence reports on their movements.

Items recovered from the suspects raised concerns about potential sabotage activities and logistical support for insurgents.

“They are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigations to determine the extent of their involvement and connections,” the source said on Thursday.

The arrest highlights the critical role of actionable intelligence in counter-insurgency operations, particularly in identifying individuals who provide covert support to armed groups.

The military source emphasised that such operations are essential for dismantling local support structures that enable insurgents to operate effectively, noting that vigilance remains high across all operational theatres.
