Army arrests Kogi Cab operator for drug peddling

As part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities and block the flow of illicit substances fueling banditry, the Nigerian Army has intercepted a Cab operator for possessing 108.8 kilograms of cannabis in Kogi State.

The driver, Johnson Ayo, was apprehended by the troops of the 12 Brigade while transporting 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa in his vehicle with a number plate DKA 158 AU.

Ayo’s arrest was disclosed by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, yesterday.

Abdullahi said the operation reflects its intensified efforts to deny criminal networks the resources that enable violent crimes across the state.

He noted that the driver was apprehended around Agbede Response Area when troops conducting a routine stop-and-search intercepted his Toyota Camry where the drug consignments were hidden after thorough searching.

“The car, driven by Johnson Ayo, also had a branded police hat and belt displayed on the dashboard, which further heightened suspicion. A deeper inspection of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 108.8 kilograms, concealed inside.

“Preliminary findings indicate that drug movements of this scale provide financial support for criminal gangs and are strongly linked to the chain of activities that escalate into banditry within Kogi and neighbouring states.

“The suspect and the seized exhibits have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation.

“The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking, dismantling criminal supply networks, and ensuring public safety across the state”.
