Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), in collaboration with personnel of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have arrested a couple allegedly involved in gunrunning and recovered a large cache of ammunition during a coordinated operation in Kaduna State.
The suspects, Abdullahi Balarabe (40) and his wife, Shafaatu Abdullahi (18), were intercepted while attempting to transport 1,207 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, believed to be destined for armed groups operating in the region.
The couple was arrested on Wednesday at a snap checkpoint mounted by the joint troops on the outskirts of Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following actionable intelligence provided by a security agency in Plateau State.
This operation, as stated by the military was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security within the Joint Operations Area and curb the movement of illegal arms across the North West region.
