The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over a statement issued on the occasion of President Bola Tinubu’s birthday, describing it as inappropriate and politically unhelpful.
The APC said the ADC’s message demonstrated pettiness and bitterness at a time when goodwill and civility should guide political discourse.
In a statement issued on Monday, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo, the party described the conduct as a demonstration of a party in disarray, lacking direction, and overwhelmed by its own challenges.
Oladejo contrasted the ADC’s statement with examples of decorum shown by public institutions, noting that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) responded to the personal loss of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai with dignity and empathy, even while he faced ongoing investigations.
“This conduct stands in sharp contrast to the standard of civility expected in political engagement. A responsible opposition should focus on constructive participation, not unhelpful attacks that contribute nothing to national development,” Oladejo said.
The Lagos APC urged the ADC to redirect its energy from public attacks to strengthening its organizational structure and policy platforms, stressing that Nigerians deserve opposition parties that can propose alternatives and engage meaningfully in governance.
Oladejo further reaffirmed APC’s commitment to delivering on its mandate of good governance, stating that while the party remains disciplined and focused, others continue to struggle with internal disorganization and ineffective opposition.
