Alia swears-in Yuwa as Benue high court judge

By Mary Odeh

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Monday swore in Justice Franca Yuwa as a judge of the Benue State High Court, urging the judiciary to uphold justice and the rule of law.

The event took place at the Government House, Makurdi, where Justice Yuwa was formally administered the oath of office by the Chief Judge of Benue State.

Governor Alia described her appointment as a recognition of merit, highlighting her distinguished career progression from Magistrate Grade II, to Chief Magistrate, and later Registrar of the High Court.

He emphasized that her elevation sends an encouraging message to young lawyers, particularly women, that dedication and excellence in the legal profession are recognized and rewarded.

The Governor assured judges of his administration’s unwavering support, noting that more appointments have been made to the High Court under his leadership than in recent years.

He said these efforts are aimed at reducing case backlogs, enhancing justice delivery, and restoring public confidence in the judiciary.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, Governor Alia noted investments in court infrastructure, improved conditions of service, and consistent respect for judicial autonomy.

He also charged Justice Yuwa to uphold the highest standards of judicial conduct, warning against undue influence, pressure, or inducement. “Judicial independence must not translate into impunity,” he stressed, adding that citizens expect courts to be fair, firm, and guided by truth and equity.
