Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has appointed Jerry Ashwe as a member of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), urging him to uphold integrity, fairness, and professionalism in the state’s electoral process.
Ashwe was appointed to fill in the vacancy left by the late Hon. Solomon Akighe, a former BSIEC member who passed away last year.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Friday at the Government House in Makurdi, where Alia formally inaugurated Ashwe and encouraged him to perform his duties independently, ensuring transparency and credibility in local government elections.
Speaking during the event, Alia described BSIEC as a key institution in Benue’s democratic framework, emphasizing that its credibility depends on the competence, impartiality, and character of its members.
The governor also commended the Benue State House of Assembly for diligently screening and confirming Ashwe, noting the legislature’s role in safeguarding the integrity of state institutions.
In his remarks, Ashwe expressed gratitude to the governor for the appointment and pledged to uphold the Constitution and state laws, promising to ensure fair, transparent, and credible electoral processes across Benue.
