Algeria beats Super Eagles 2-1 during friendly game

By News Desk

The Algerian national football team has defeated a depleted Super Eagles side 2-1 during a friendly game played in Oran.

Super Eagles forward, Terem Moffi, opened the match goal tally in the ninth minute but bad tackling and goalkeeping errors brought the host, Algeria, back into the game and eventually won.

On Tuesday during the game, Manchester City star, Riyad Mahrez, levelled things for the Fennecs in the 40th minute when he converted from the spot.

A Youcef Atal cracker, 21 minutes later, condemned the Nigerian team to its first defeat to an African side since taking over the team earlier in the year.

The Nigeria team during the match was without key players including Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen; defender William Troost-Ekong among others for the clash in the North African nation.

The recent friendly game was just the second friendly between the nations, Nigeria and Algeria have played 21 times.

Before this game, Nigeria had battled to a 2-2 draw with the Algerian home-based side. Both sides did not qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but the games were expected to get the Nigerian gaffer better acquainted with the players.
