Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed rumours about his health, assuring Nigerians that he is hale and hearty after returning from a brief medical trip to the United Kingdom.
Akpabio, who led a Nigerian delegation to the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva from July 29 to 31, travelled to the United Kingdom afterward, prompting questions about his health and ability to lead the Senate.
However, the Senate President refuted these reports, stating that he only travelled abroad to take a short break after a busy legislative schedule.
“I am perfectly fine. There was never a time I was admitted to any hospital. I only used the opportunity to rest after official engagements,” he told journalists.
The clarification came after the Senate President returned to Nigeria from London on Monday morning.
Akpabio, who arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 4:00 a.m., was received by lawmakers, aides, and well-wishers.
Speaking further, the Senate President assured Nigerians of more impactful legislative sessions when the National Assembly reconvenes.
He also defended the participation of a large Nigerian delegation at the Geneva conference, stressing that it was aimed at deepening democratic governance and strengthening collaboration among arms of government.
