Abdulrazaq begins renovation of Kwara cultural center

The Kwara State Government has commenced the renovation of the Patigi Cultural Centre in Patigi Local Government Area to preserve cultural heritage and drive inclusive economic growth through innovation and culture.

The project, initiated by the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is aimed at promoting balanced development across all local governments, while positioning culture as a strategic tool for social cohesion, tourism development, and economic diversification.

The renovation, which began in Patigi, Kwara State, is being executed under the supervision of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology (MBIT) as part of the government’s broader agenda to harness indigenous culture for sustainable development.

Speaking on the initiative, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Damilola Adelodun, said the project aligns with Governor AbdulRazaq’s vision of inclusive growth that recognises the vital role of cultural heritage in economic transformation.

She explained that the renovated centre would provide a modern facility for the documentation, preservation, and promotion of the rich cultural heritage of the Patigi people, Kwara State, and the wider Nupe-speaking communities.

According to her, the centre will host cultural exhibitions, performances, festivals, and educational programmes to strengthen intergenerational transmission of values and safeguard indigenous knowledge systems.

Adelodun added that by institutionalising cultural activities within a revitalised centre, the state government is positioning Kwara as a hub of cultural excellence, in line with the administration’s development agenda.

Beyond cultural preservation, the commissioner noted that the project would generate significant economic benefits, including job creation during the renovation phase and operational period, engagement of local artisans and creative entrepreneurs, and increased tourism activities in Patigi and neighbouring communities.

She reiterated that the Patigi Cultural Centre reflects the AbdulRazaq administration’s integrated development strategy, which blends culture, innovation, and technology to achieve sustainable impact, adding that the centre would foster unity, cultural exchange, and youth engagement across the state.

The project, she said, underscores the government’s resolve to leverage cultural infrastructure as a catalyst for social cohesion, economic diversification, and long-term development in Kwara State.
