An expecting mother who was abducted alongside her daughter from Kyaram community in the Garga district of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State, after the killing of her husband, has given birth while in captivity.
According to reports, the kidnappers contacted the relatives of the victim, confirming that the woman delivered safely under their watch just two days after she and her daughter were taken.
Kanam Development Association secretary, Shehu Kanam, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, while condemning the killing of the woman’s husband, Umar Rufa’i, who was buried on January 18. He urged authorities to act as banditry continues to persist across the Garga district.
“The report we received this morning is that the bandits called and informed the family that the wife of the deceased gave birth today while in captivity. This is very heartbreaking, imagining the condition through which she delivered,” the statement revealed.
“We condemn this heinous act and express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Kyaram community,” it added.
The association noted that the entire Garga district has been repeatedly affected by banditry and kidnapping, with frequent killings and abductions.
According to Kanam, “Despite our appeals to the government, the situation remains unchanged. We urge the authorities to take immediate action to address this crisis.”
