500 Lagos, Nasarawa, Kwara Christians arrive Jordan for pilgrimage

Over 500 Christian pilgrims from across Nigeria have arrived safely at Amman International Airport, Jordan, for a Holy Land pilgrimage, marking the start of a spiritual journey to key biblical and historical sites across the region.

The delegations, comprising pilgrims from Lagos, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Abuja, will visit sacred sites in Jordan and Israel, including the Sea of Galilee, the River Jordan, and the birthplace of Jesus in Jerusalem, to strengthen their faith and connect with biblical history.

Earlier, the Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that the Lagos pilgrims had been airlifted as the second batch of the 2025 pilgrimage, following the arrival of the first set of 200 pilgrims a day earlier.

The Lagos contingent departed from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, where officials urged them to uphold the state’s reputation abroad and respect the laws and customs of the host countries.

At the departure ceremony, Permanent Secretary Adewunmi Ogunsanya and Special Adviser on Christian Religious Matters, Very Revd Bukola Adeleke, emphasized the importance of being exemplary ambassadors.

Okudero Omoniyi, Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, noted that the first batch had set a high standard and expressed confidence that the second batch would exceed expectations. He also assured that all arrangements had been made for the pilgrims’ safety and comfort.

During the pilgrimage, the Lagos pilgrims are expected to visit holy sites, engage in spiritual reflections, and deepen their connection with biblical history.
