4,942 Lagos post-primary school teachers set for promotion

As a means of rewarding excellence in service delivery, the Lagos State Government has concluded plans to promote 4,942 post-primary school teachers in the state.

The State Government stressed that the promotion was geared towards rewarding teachers that have embraced diligence at work.

Speaking on the conduct of the promotion exercise, the

Confirming the planned promotion, Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Olabisi Ariyo, hinted that to further ascertain if the shortlisted teachers merited the progression, the government will be organising promotion exercise for them.

Ariyo said: “he exercise has been scheduled to commence with a Structured Training Programme (STP), which entails both the generic and professional programmes for all categories of eligible Officers between grade levels 06 -17.

“This exercise will be handle by the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre (TSSDC), Owutu, Ikorodu, between Wednesday, March 18th – Saturday, March 21st, 2020, at four designated centres in the state.

“The Centres are New Era (Senior & Junior) Secondary School, Surulere; Ikeja (Senior) Secondary School, Oshodi; Awori Ajeromi (Senior) Secondary School, Agboju; and the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre (TSSDC) Owutu, Ikorodu”.

Speaking further, the Chairman assured that each eligible candidate for the promotion exercise has been assigned to centre that has to their Education Districts, to reduce the stress of transportation.

She assured the shortlisted teachers that adequate provisions have been made towards facilitating materials, logistics and other equipment for a hitch-free exercise.

Earlier, Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission, Toyin Awoseyi, emphasised that the Structured Training Programme is mandatory for all eligible Officers irrespective of their cadres and grade levels.

She affirmed that the Commission would not hesitate to disqualify Officers found to be involved in any misconduct in form of lateness or absenteeism, saying, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against such officer.

She noted that all Promotion Eligibility Identification Slips have been confirmed and forwarded to the Education Districts for onward distribution to eligible Officers accordingly.
