Army chief dies after car explosion in Russia

An army general, Fanil Sarvarov, has died following a car explosion in Russia, the authorities have disclosed.

Sarvarov died following a blast from a detonated explosive device installed under the bottom of a car, causing massive unrest at the scene.

The Investigative Committee published a video from the scene which showed a damaged car from the blast which caused the death of the military figure, who became the third high-ranking military figure killed since late last year.

“Sarvarov was the head of the operational Training Department of the General Staff of the Russian armed forces, “the committee said following the incident which happened in Moscow on Monday.

“He was killed when an explosive device installed under the bottom of a car was detonated on Yaseneva Street in Moscow,” it added.

In December 2024, Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia’s Radiological, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces, was killed in an explosion along with his assistant as they were leaving a residential building in Moscow, as recalled by investigators.

“The explosive device that killed Kirillov was planted on an electric scooter that was left close to the building, investigators said. It also mentioned Yaroslav Moskalik who was likes in April by a car bomb in an eastern suburb of the capital.
