The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other key partners, has received 180 stranded Nigerians evacuated from various cities in Libya.
A breakdown of the evacuees includes 147 adults (45 males and 102 females), 19 children (6 males and 13 females), and 14 infants (7 males and 7 females).
Out of the total number, 46 individuals were identified with medical conditions and were promptly attended to by health officials.
The rescued citizens arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, yesterday at about 7:00 p.m. aboard an Air Libya Airline flight with registration number 5A-BAE.
Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation to ensure accurate profiling and to facilitate their smooth reintegration into the country.
In line with the Federal Government’s commitment to the safe, dignified, and humane return of its citizens, they were provided with food, potable water, medical care, ambulance services, counselling, and other humanitarian support.
The reception exercise was jointly coordinated by NEMA, IOM, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and Port Health Services.
The well-coordinated operation underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the welfare and dignity of Nigerians returning from conflict-affected regions abroad.
