At least 15 people have died alongside others severely injured and needing medical intervention after a landslide triggered by a devastating rain hit a bus in India.
The Police held that the dead casualties of nine men, four women and two children were among travellers in the bus which was driven on a hilly stretch after which the landslide struck, leading to a call for emergency responders who carried out rescue mission at the scene.
The bodies were dug out from under heavy boulders and moulds of earth by the rescuing team which disclosed that the mission will continue as many other persons are trapped underneath and feared dead.
Reacting to the incident which happened on Thursday in Shimla, Himalayan State, the Chief Minister, Singh Sukhu, said, ”15 deaths have been confirmed so far while three children have been rescued alive and were being treated at a local hospital.”
According to reports, dozens of people have died in the country from the May to September rainy season. Last week’s torrential rainfall led to 36 deaths and destroyed swathes of premier tea estates as well as over 500 homes destroyed in the Himalayan region.
